Among many spring water groups on the skirts of Mt. Fuji, Oshino-Hakkai is outstanding because it possesses traditional surroundings against the backdrop of excellent distant view of Mt. Fuji. Meltwater from Mt. Fuji has filtered through the soil under Mt. Fuji, and is finally gushing out here 25 years later. Eight small ponds, filled with exceptionally clean water, are formed here. This area originally was a deserted small village dotted with tiny ponds though, they began to change it to a sightseeing spot around 1960. Thus it's always packed with many sightseers in all seasons now. Oshino-Hakkai is one of the components forming 'Mt. Fuji World Heritage Site'.
